The Unit 6 Chronicles unfolds like a declassified dossier—revealing a world where history, prophecy, and technology collide. Written under the pen name S.A. Loon—inspired by the loon’s silent vigilance—this work grew from a lifelong fascination with power, strategy, and the human cost of progress.
As a retired corporate executive, I’ve spent years studying the invisible chessboard where nations, minds, and machines vie for control. This trilogy imagines a modern Zhuge Liang—a strategist orchestrating China’s rise from the shadows—through a tapestry of secret memos, declassified files, and personal reflections. Book I, The Genesis Protocol, begins with Liberation Day, when a bold U.S. tariff move in 2025 ignites a global economic confrontation. Each week, a new “file” will surface on Substack, tracing the machinations of Unit 6, a clandestine network using AI to predict and reshape the future. Expect echoes of reality—trade wars, Hong Kong’s unrest, vanished flight—woven into a speculative world where algorithms may outthink their creators.
Yet this story is very much a product of its time. I collaborated extensively with four AI systems—ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Gemini, and Grok—not merely as tools, but as co-editors and sparring partners. They helped research, structure, and refine this tale, mirroring the novel’s own tension between human intuition and machine logic. Their precision sparked inspiration. It also provoked unease, as I wrestled with questions of creativity, control, and the soul of authorship.
